ABOUT THE TRAIL
The Noosa Biosphere Trail is a dedicated network of eight scenic hinterland walking, cycling and horse-riding recreational trails through the Noosa Hinterland. In existence for 20 years, the network is continually improved and upgraded by Noosa Council. The spectacular countryside trails are well signposted, and vary in length and difficulty. The trail passes through National Parks, State Forest, private property, council parks and road reserves. The ground has been minimally modified, and you should expect encounters with fallen debris, holes, rocks, mud and grass. It is a truly fantastic resource to explore 'Noosa Country', as locals call it. You'll get to meet a few of them as the trail visits the Hinterland towns of Cooroy, Pomona, Cooran & Kin Kin along its many and varied routes. The name Cooran comes from the local indigenous word of the Kabi Kabi tribe, meaning "Tall Trees" - the name of an annual art exhibition. The word Kin Kin comes from the indigenous word kauin kauin and refers to a species of black ant that is prevalent in the area. Keep your eyes out for the giant black ant statue in town! Find out more about the history and highlights of these Hinterland towns here. This is the proposed route. 2024 route will be advised when trail conditions are advised and permits are obtained. |
