History of the event
A Journey with History and Heart
The Great Noosa Trail Walk was created to showcase the diversity of the Noosa Hinterland and its communities, highlighting the region’s natural beauty and strong sense of place.
Originally founded by Shaun Walsh, the walk quickly became a much-loved annual event, drawing people from across Australia to experience the magic of the hinterland at a walking pace.
In 2019, stewardship of the event passed to the Cooroy Future Group Inc (CFG), a volunteer organisation whose members brought their local expertise, business knowledge, and passion for community to the event’s continued success.
Under CFG’s guidance — and with contributions from dedicated volunteers under the guidance and leadership of Kym Neaylon — the event grew in both professionalism and spirit, consistently selling out year after year.
The Next Chapter:
Trail Trekkers
After participating as walkers in the 2024 event, Trail Trekkers fell in love with the energy, connection, and community of the Great Noosa Trail Walk.
In 2026, Trail Trekkers are proud to continue the legacy of this cherished event — honouring its founders and volunteers while bringing a renewed focus to our philosophy:

CULTURAL ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land, the Kabi Kabi (Gubbi Gubbi) people, whose Country we walk upon.
We recognise their continuing connection to land, sea, and community, and pay our respect to Elders past, present and emerging.
We extend this respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples who share this connection to Country.
