About the Trail
Walking through Noosa Country
The Great Noosa Trail Walk follows sections of the Noosa Biosphere Trails — a network of eight scenic hinterland trails linking the country towns of Cooroy, Kin Kin, Cooran and Pomona.
These trails wind through national parks, state forests, council reserves, private farmland and quiet country roads, offering cool forest canopies, open ridgelines, rural landscapes and sweeping hinterland views. The trail network provides a unique window into the landscapes and communities that make up what locals proudly refer to as Noosa Country.
Historically, parts of the hinterland were shaped by early forestry and logging activity, which played a role in supporting local settlements and regional development. By the late 20th century, commercial logging in much of the Noosa hinterland declined significantly as forests were progressively protected and converted to national parks and forest reserves. State forest timber harvesting was phased down during this period as environmental conservation efforts expanded under formal management plans.
Today, the Noosa Biosphere Trails are maintained and improved by Noosa Council and local volunteers, preserving both the natural environment and the region’s rich cultural and land-use history.
Walkers can expect natural ground surfaces and ever-changing terrain — forest paths, rocky climbs, grassy clearings and the occasional muddy patch after rain. This is the real hinterland: wild, layered with history and very much alive.
